With a vast population, multiple colleges and universities and 242 distinct neighborhoods across the metro area, each with a unique economic offering, Atlanta is experiencing rapid economic growth. Home to Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and a growing roster of big-name companies, Atlanta is on its way to becoming one of the largest employment hubs in the Southeast.
Each year, Georgia’s private colleges and universities award over 132,000 degrees and accreditations to students, resulting in a saturation of skilled workers searching for employment in the Atlanta market. The varied talent matriculating from schools such as the Georgia Institute of Technology (Georgia Tech), the University of Georgia, Morehouse College, Georgia State University, Kennesaw State University and Spellman College places Atlanta job seekers in top contender positions for companies searching for diverse talent. In May 2022, JLL reported, “The economy continues to create so many net new jobs [and] provides hundreds of thousands of consumers with greater means to spend money.” Improved employment opportunities naturally lead to increased health of the Atlanta economy, paving the way for additional big business relocation.
According to a recent survey conducted by JLL, hybrid or full-time in-office working models have led to increased portfolio diversification for several large companies across the country. Many of those companies have chosen Atlanta as their new home base, leading to increased job opportunities and economic prosperity for the Peach State.
While the country continues to recover from the effects of the Covid pandemic, as well as rising inflation rates, Atlanta residents have several silver linings on the horizon. Often referred to as the “Silicon Valley of the South,” Atlanta is home to the second-largest Microsoft campus in the world and a multiple-location Google hub, which both continue development. These expansions will benefit a large percentage of graduates from Georgia’s 85 accredited public and private higher education schools, as well as the growing roster of 18 Fortune 500 companies and 33 Fortune 1000 companies present in the metro area, including:
- The Home Depot
- Coca-Cola
- Airbnb
- Intel
- META
- iHeart
- Instacart
- Nike Tech Center
- VISA
- UPS Worldwide
- AT&T Foundry
- Salesloft
- Mailchimp
- And many more
